OgunSUBEB Tasks Headteachers On In-House Training To Enhance Capacity Of Teachers To Boost Learning In Schools

 Ogun State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), has charged Headteachers in Public Primary Schools across the State to institutionalise regular in-house training for teachers to strengthen instructional delivery and improve pupils’ learning outcomes.

Chairman of the agency, Evang. Olalekan Ifede gave the charge  during a special monitoring exercise conducted at St. Peter's Nursery and Primary School II in Ake area of Abeokuta 

The initiative according to him, is intended to complement the Board’s ongoing efforts to ensure that learners in Public Primary Schools could read, write and communicate effectively.

He explained that the monitoring exercise was designed to assess the implementation of measures introduced to enhance learning outcomes including; the use of 2D instructional materials for handwriting, phonics-based teaching methods and the display of vision and mission statements in classrooms, among other interventions

He added that regular in-house training would equip teachers with improved pedagogical skills and ultimately translate into better academic performance by pupils urging teachers to adopt innovative teaching methods that promote academic excellence.

“It is compulsory for every child in this country to have basic education. The moment any child gets to Junior Secondary School, he/she is equipped to pursue any vocation,” he said.

The SUBEB Boss disclosed that additional monitoring teams had been deployed to other local government areas, including Ota and Ipokia, to ensure compliance across the State, while expressing satisfaction with the level of implementation observed, he encouraged teachers to treat pupils with a strong sense of responsibility by delivering lessons in line with approved standards.

In their remarks, Headteachers of Ansar-ud-Deen School II, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Oyemosu and her counterparts from St. Peter’s Nursery and Primary Schools I and II in Isara Remo, Mrs. Kubrat Ogunsolu, appreciated the Board for the inspection, assuring that identified gaps would be addressed.

Other schools visited during the exercise included; Local Government School, Sofidipe, Orile-Oko in Remo North; Ansar-ud-Deen School II, Iperu-Remo, St. John's Anglican Nursery Primary School, Ajura in Obafemi-Owode Local Government.
