Ogun Assembly Passes Diversity , Equity Commission Bill , Confirms Judicial Service Commission Nominee

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a bill  for establishment of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Commission", which serves as a Catalyst for Parity, Entrench Social Justice and Prohibit Discrimination Against Vulnerable Groups in all spheres of life and other related matters 

The passage of the bill titled: "H.B. No. 023/OG/2025 -A Bill for a Law to Establish the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Commission", followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development by its Chairman, who is also the Assembly's Chief Whip, Hon. (Mrs.) Omolola Bakare.

Hon. Bakare later moved the motion for the adoption of the report, seconded by Hon. Folawewo Salami and supported by all the lawmakers through a voice vote during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The bill was subsequently considered clause- by -clause by the Committee of the Whole House, after which the motion for its third reading was moved by the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, seconded by Hon. Babatunde Tella and unanimously supported by the lawmakers through a voice vote.

The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, thereafter read the bill for the third time before the Statelawmakers, after which the Speaker directed that a clean copy of the bill be transmitted to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.

In another development, the Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Barrister Adeleke Godwin Solarin as a member of the Judicial Service Commission of the State following his earlier screening the previous day by the lawmakers.

The confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the Committee of the Whole House by the Chief Whip, after which the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, moved the motion for its adoption and conversion of the report into a house resolution, seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ademola Adeniran and supported by all the lawmakers through a unanimous voice vote.

Earlier in her presentation, Hon. Bakare noted that the Committee found the nominee eligible and suitable to serve as a member of the Judicial Service Commission based on his qualifications and experience.

The Speaker later directed that the Assembly’s resolution be communicated to Governor  Dapo Abiodun, for the swearing-in of the nominee.
