FOMWAN Celebrates Women's Day In A Grand style With 40th Anniversary Cake, Awards Of Excellence, Commissioning of NYSC Lodge In Ogun

Associations of Nigeria, FOMWAN in Ogun State has celebrated the 2026 International Women's Day in a grand style with its 40th anniversary cake of organization, awards of excellence to distinguished individuals who contributed to the growth of the society and formal commissioning of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lodge In Abeokuta, the State capital 

A total of 22 awardees were appreciated with plagues for their commitment to propagation of Islam and selfless service to humanity while some individuals from various zones of the organization were empowered with cash awards as part of activities marking this year's Women's Day which has its theme : Women's Justice. Action for women and girls "






The Ogun State Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Zainab Jinadu in her opening speech at the event on Sunday held at the organization's Secretariat in Abeokuta, expressed concern over the rising cases of rape, child labour ,child abuse, human trafficking and modern slavery under the disguise of searching for greener pastures in Europe, America and Asia 

She also decried the worrisome number of domestic violence among women and silent tears shed behind closed doors by several women 

"We have attended conferences, we have held workshops. We have discussed solutions. Now is the time for stronger implementation and united action"

"This calls for collective responsibility - concerning what happens to women and girls at home, in the workplace, within our communities and in society at large 

Alhaja Zainab stressed the need for women to be committed to give time and resources to acquire the needed education and training for their personal growth 

She maintained that women provide guidance, mentorship and right counsel for their children, adding they must Instill discipline, courage and confidence in them to overcome all these challenges in the society 














The State Amirah of FOMWAN emphasized the importance of easy access to healthcare and legal support to seek redresses in court against all forms of violation against women and girls in the society 

She charged various women's groups to be bold enough to confront every obstacle standing in the way including barriers to equal justice, discriminatory laws, weak legal protections , harmful cultural practices and damaging social norms 


The Amirah then listed several programmes and projects successfully executed by her administration since July 31, 2022 , which earned the State chapter of FOMWAN the National Award on Humanitarian and Community Service in August, 2025 during the National conference mark the 40th Anniversary 

Similarly, a Deputy Director at the Medical Laboratory Science Department of the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta, Alhaja Rasheedah Ibrahim in her lecture on the theme of this year's Women's Day celebration, emphasized the importance of women living a life worthy of emulation in the society, saying they must be good role models for their families in their homes and places of work 


She stressed the need for women to strive to acquire the needed education and right knowledge to enable them to jointly address the disturbing issues of injustice and discrimination against women in the society 

Chief Imam of Egbaland , Alhaji Sadulahi Bamgbola lauded members of FOMWAN for imbibing the Islamic teachings of the holy Prophet Mohammed (peace of blessings of Allah be upon him and his companions) in what they do as women and mothers in the society 


Alhaji Bamgbola leading other clerics at event prayed Allah for the continuous growth of the organization and announced a donation of N50,000 on behalf of the Ogun State League of Imams and Alfas for the physical transformation of the State Secretariat 

The NYSC Lodge constructed in honour of the late Prince Abdul Jabbar Ajibola was later commissioned by Prince Maruf Adesegun Ajibola represented by Alhaji Aweda alongside, the Grand Caliph of Tijanniyah and Yorubaland , Edo and Delta states, Sheikh Mohammed Salisu Alao Adenekan who performed the cutting of the tap at the main entrance into the building 












Several prominent individuals also announced their various donations for the physical growth of the State Secretariat of FOMWAN 

The Awardees included Hadjia Tawakalitu Abolanle Kazeem, Alhaja B A 
Ogunbayo, Alhaja kudirat Azeez, Hajia Jemilah Lawal , Alhaji Fatai Adedamola, Alhaja Hawawu Abeke Adeleke, Hajia Ganiyat Oluyemisi Sanni, Alhaja Hafsat Adekunle , Alhaji Salami Adedokun Kabir, Alhaji Taoheed Olabanji Oladunni, Alhaja Tawakalitu Amope Sowunmi , Alhaja Kudirat Omolara Soyoye , Alhaji Taofeek Idowu Somuyiwa and Alhaja Hafsat Ajoke Adekunle 




















Others presented the award of excellence included Alhaja Mujidat Osisanya, Alhaji Taofeek Adebare Shaibu, the family of the late Alhaja Risikat Odekunle, Alhaja Ramota Atinuke Lasisi, Alhaja (Chief) Surura Oyero, Alhaji Agbaje Monsur as well as Alhaja (Engr) Monsurat Agboola and Mrs Olanike Afusat Lawal 




The event was spiced up with the presentation of cash awards empowerment to some of the members of FOMWAN and cutting of the 40th Anniversary Cake
