Chief Executive Officer and Managing Editor at August 22nd Communication Links, publisher of Edu-biznews, a fast growing online news platform, Abdulfatai Sobande has revealed how a Scammer hacked into his WhatsApp account, sending messages to several contacts
The Scammer according to him, called on Whatsapp, pretending to be a member of Asero Housing Estate Abeokuta registered on the residents platform
The Scammer claimed that there would be a virtual meeting among residents slated for this Saturday, March 7, 2026 by 8pm and code has been sent to be part of the meeting
"He (the Scammer) asked me to call the code sent as SMS to my phone and with out suspecting I called the code which he immediately used to hack into my Whatsapp account on Tuesday afternoon before it was later retrieved on Wednesday by an Information and Communication Expert who removed the pin used by the Scammer to operate the Whatsapp account
He stated that several colleagues in the media and others on the contact list, started calling to inform him that the Whatsapp account has been hacked
The Managing Editor added that the scammer failed in his dubious effort to scam several individuals on the contact list who strongly believed that such messages could not have been come him based on his personal record of integrity and honesty
Some of the colleagues in the media industry and high profile individuals on the contact list shared some of the chats , where the scammer claimed he was trying to transfer money to someone's account but was not successful, sending messages to various individuals to assist him to send as much as N586, 000 to the beneficiary's account, promising to refund the money
