Lagos State University (LASU) has pledged stronger support for student-led initiatives, after meeting separately with top members of both of the Hult Prize and Junior Chamber International (JCI) LASU Chapter who paid courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello
The student delegations were at the Vice-Chancellor's office to present their initiatives and explore avenues for deeper institutional collaboration aimed at expanding student development opportunities.
The Vice-Chancellor represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics)Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi applauded the vision and commitment of the Hult Prize team during the meeting, saying it reflects the leadership potential inherent in LASU students and aligns with the University’s aspiration to produce globally competitive graduates
He encouraged the team to remain focused and ambitious, noting that they are already demonstrating the traits of world-class students.
Professor Afisi assured them of the University’s readiness to provide the necessary support to strengthen their activities and broaden their impact.
The Hult Prize delegation, led by Campus Director Sheriffdeen Ashiru, a 300-level Computer Science student, had earlier
commended the Vice-Chancellor’s administration for what he described as significant milestones achieved since she assumed office.
He noted that the progress recorded under her leadership has fostered a conducive academic environment that supports innovation, enterprise, and student-led initiatives.
He described the Hult Prize as an annual global competition that challenges young people to develop scalable and sustainable social enterprises capable of addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
He highlighted the team’s activities on campus, outlined operational challenges, and formally sought enhanced collaboration with the University, to enable more LASU students to benefit from the global opportunities offered by the initiative.
Similarly, the Junior Chamber International (JCI) LASU Chapter led by its current President, Miss Suliat Mogaji, a 300-level Philosophy student,
also paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor.
Miss Mogaji expressed appreciation to the University leadership for creating an enabling environment that allows student organisations to thrive.
She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her consistent support and requested further institutional backing to enable JCI to reach more students, scale up its programmes, and deepen its positive impact within and beyond the campus community.
In his response, Professor *Afisi* commended the team and their contributions to leadership development and community engagement within the University.
He urged them to intensify awareness campaigns to ensure broader student participation in JCI activities and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing the access and support required for the organisation to achieve its objectives.
At the end of the visits, both teams made gift presentations to the Vice-Chancellor.
In attendance was the Chief Public Relations Officer/Head, Media Relations Unit, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mr Olaniyi Jeariogbe who serves as staff adviser for both organisations.
The visits concluded with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, by the Deputy Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami
