Vice-President, Kashim Shettima has stressed the need for the Borno State Government to sustain its investment in education, blaming the current challenge of insecurity confronting Nigeria on poor funding of education sector, particularly by states in most parts of North
Shettima who was speaking on Saturday during the maiden combined convocation of the State owned, Kashim Ibrahim University In Maiduguri for three academic sessions of 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, lauded Governor Babagana Zulum for his administration continuous investment in education leading to the successful graduation of the students from the university
He lamented that most States in the North are paying dearly for inadequate investment in education by previous administrations which according to him, is contributing to disturbing rate of banditry and Insurgency in the region
The Vice-President whose administration as immediate former governor established the university, promised continuous support for the institution as he a donation of bus and offered postgraduate scholarship awards to each of the overall best graduand for the three combined sets of 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025,
Shettima was full of praises for both the Elder state man and Pro-Chancellor of the university, Alhaji (Dr) Mohammed Idimi with his wealth and Shehu Umar El-Kanemi for remaining in Maiduguri at the height of insecurity in the previous years and ensuring the growth of the university
The Vice-President also appreciated Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi for accepting to serve as Chancellor of the university
He then charged the graduating students to justify huge investment in them and be good ambassadors of the university, by not compromising ethical standards of their respective disciplines at the institution and using their knowledge and skills acquired as graduates to impact positively in the society
Governor Zulum and Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Babagana Gutti commended the visionary leadership of the Vice-President whose administration actualized the establishment of the university in 2016 , promising to sustain the legacy
