Tax Reforms: Ogun Revenue Service Chairman Assures Individuals, Corporate Organizations Of Benefits

Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, has reaffirmed that the tax reforms offer more benefits to individuals and corporate organisations rather than imposing additional burdens on them.

Olaleye, made this known during an interview with Journalists, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying tax reforms were designed to increase disposable income for low and middle-income earners and promote fairness in taxation.

He emphasised that OGIRS had established strong collaboration and system integration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including the Ministries of Industry, Trade and Investment and Physical Planning, among others, to enhance effective tax administration.

He reiterated that OGIRS does not collect levies but taxes, stressing that the agency had fully digitalised its operations to block revenue leakages and widen the tax net.

The OGIRS Chairman further explained that the agency was responsible for tax collection, noting that, Ogun State Government deploys the revenue generated for developmental projects across the State.

He highlighted the importance of the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) to the agency, adding that it would enhances efficiency, transparency and revenue administration, disclosing that the system supports efficient record keeping by enabling OGIRS to store, organise and retrieve taxpayer records as well as official documents electronically, thereby reducing paperwork and loss of files.
