Ogun Govt Lauds Olowu On Adoption Of Special Needs School

Ogun State Government has lauded the generosity of Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof). Saka Adelola Matemilola, for adopting Daniel Akintonde Model School for Children with Special Needs, Adigbe in Abeokuta, the State capital 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu who  gave the commendation during the commissioning of the rehabilitated dinning hall of the school by the Olowu Initiatives, expressed satisfaction over the transformation brought to the hall and for the highly sophisticated cooking tools donated to make the lives of the children peaceful and enjoyable.

The Commissioner also expressed government's appreciation for the  new befitting toilet facilities constructed by Oba Olowu sometimes last year, including 150 bunks with 150 high quality mattresses donated to boys and girls school hostels to make life bearable for them.

Arigbabu applauded Oba Matemilola for keying into the agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration on education, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and learners welfare.

 "We are in a discussion with Kabiyesi to have visually impaired learners here and he has promised to provide some buildings as well as amenities towards that initiative,’’ he said.

Speaking, the  State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, acknowledged that the Kabiyesi had passionately invested a lot in the school to give the children better life conditions.

"Kabiyesi has indeed invested a lot into this special needs school and we do know that special needs children are vulnerable to health conditions and infections, so our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team will be visiting the school to do public awareness to ensure that we have international standards," she said.

During a media engagement, the donor, Oba Saka Matemilola, said as a community leader, his primary responsibility was to ensure the well-being of his people irrespective of their abilities or limitations, hence the various interventions embarked upon to cater for children living with disabilities.

"We adopted Daniel Akintonde Model School For Children With Special Needs to provide all infrastructures, all facilities and to ensure they also have opportunities to decent living and dignity of life," Oba Matemilola noted.

In her appreciative notes, Headteacher of the School, Mrs. Florence Oladele expressed gratitude towards the reformations going on around the school majorly by the government and the Olowu of Owu.
