No fewer than 104 will be graduating with First Class Honours Degree out of 4,141 fresh graduands at the 33rd Convocation of the Federal University of Agriculture FUNAAB Abeokuta holding on Saturday at the Alabata main campus of the university, just as the institution will be commissioning new capital projects to further enhance the learning environment of its students
Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Olusola Kehinde who made this known on Wednesday during a press conference heralding activities of the Convocation, further gave the breakdown of the graduating students for the 2024/2025 academic session to include
1,771 with Second Class Upper Division and 1,896 Second Class Lower Division Lower Division, 285 graduating with Third Class Degrees and only two graduating with Pass
According to him, a total of 1,202 postgraduate students will also be graduating, including 49 postgraduate diploma holders, 1,064 master’s degree graduates and 89 PhD recipients across various disciplines.
The Vice-Chancellor says all 44 academic programmes being offered by the university are fully accredited, reflecting its strong culture of quality assurance and academic rigour.
He also listed the six completed projects to be commissioned on Friday during the Convocation to include the College of Physical Sciences Phase II building, a 240-capacity computer laboratory and an animal demonstration laboratory to serve both academic and community needs, phase one of veterinary anatomy laboratory as well as residential quarters for principal officers and 120-bed hostel facility for the students
On questions regarding the university’s role in job creation and economic development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, said FUNAAB equips students with practical ideas and marketable skills before graduation.
The VC added that the institution’s Career Services and Linkages Unit plays a key role in connecting graduates with employment opportunities and industry partners, ensuring that the knowledge and skills acquired on campus translate into tangible economic impact.
FUNAAB according to him, has continued to record an increase in its students population with additional 6,356 students matriculated for the 2025/2026 academic session from the pioneering set of 250 students in the late 80s when the university commenced academic activities
The Vice-Chancellor described the convocation as a celebration of achievement and resilience, while expressing appreciation to the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for their continued support to the university.
