Sen.Shuaib Afolabi Salisu Rewards Over 200 Teachers, Outstanding Educators in Ogun Central With Cash gifts, Laptops

 


The Senator representing Ogun Central, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has empowered more than 220 teachers with cash gifts and laptops on completion of a three-day intensive training programme in Information and Communication Technology( ICT), held in Abeokuta , the Ogun State capital 

Also the most outstanding educators within the district were honoured for their exceptional contributions to the education sector 

The three-day programme, which concluded with a ceremony at the ICT building of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, saw each of the 220 recently trained teachers receive a brand new laptop and a cash gift of N100,000.

 The teachers had just completed an intensive ICT training programme facilitated by the federal lawmaker.

Speaking at the event, Senator Salisu, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT, urged Nigerian youth to reject the notion that "education is a scam," describing it instead as the core of personal and national development.

“I decided to focus so much more on initiatives aimed at boosting the educational empowerment of the youth because of the impact of such investment on the future of the nation"

 “My modest achievements in life might have been impossible without a sound education,”Salisu stated

The Senator described teachers as critical actors in the learning process, hence the need to equip them with the necessary IT skills to make meaningful impact on their students in classrooms 


“The critical actors in the learning world and outcome are the teachers,” Salisu explained. “We decided to upskill the IT skills of our teachers so that they can be more grounded in the ICT world and also be able to impact others.”

He detailed his office’s educational interventions in the last two years to include, training undergraduates, procuring educational materials, and installing ICT laboratories in public schools such as Nawairudeen Secondary School, Obantoko, and Agbado District Comprehensive High School.

The Senator also used the occasion to present special awards and laptops to eight distinguished teachers from the senatorial district who have excelled at state, national, and global levels.


The honoured teachers are:

1. Mrs Akintunde Omotayo Olabisi, Best Teacher in Ogun State, 2024.
2. Solanke Francis Taiwo, Best Teacher in Nigeria, 2025.
3. Odeyale Esther Toyin, 2nd Best Teacher (Primary) in Ogun State, 2025.
4. Togbe Ganiyu Gbetayi, Overall Best Teacher in Ogun State (Primary & Secondary), 2023.
5. Badru Akeem Abiodun, Global Winner, Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards.
6. Adebayo Mary Oluwaseun, Outstanding STEM Teacher in Ogun State.
7. Odusola James, Best Administrative Teacher in Ogun State.
8. Tijani Fatimat Bola, 3rd Best Teacher in Ogun State.

The event was attended by dignitaries from the education sector and local government, including:

1. The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu.
2. The Chairman of Odeda Local Government and ALGON Chairman in Ogun State, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo.
3. The Permanent Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Oluwatosin Oloko.
4. A Director at the Ministry of Education, Mrs Abosede Edun.
5. The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Arc. Dr. 'Koye Jolaoso.
6. The Principal General (Egba Division), Mr Ige B.O.
7. The President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr Lamidi.
8. The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ogun State, Comrade Lasisi Akeem.
9. The Education Secretary of Odeda Local Government, Alhaji Imam Oguntola S. Omotola.
10. The Education Secretary of Abeokuta South Local Government, Mr Alli Mohammed.
11. The Commissioner at the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Hon. Majekodunmi Olanrenwaju.
12. Hon. Lanre Jaji, Consultant to the governor on New Media. 

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu commended Senator Salisu for his consistent and notable investments in the future of the state and the nation 

He noted that the ICT initiatives align perfectly with the state government’s drive to expand digital knowledge.
