Ogun State Government has earmarked N275.40 billion for education sector out of the N1.668.997 trillion of the proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year.
The amount demonstrate high premium placed on provision of qualitative and accessible education, in line with global best standard
Governor Dapo Abiodun, while presenting the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, disclosed that the 17 percent allocated to the education sector was to further invest in it and make it totally conform to the global best practices.
The Governor revealed that the huge amount earmarked would further enhance the enviable educational legacy and sweeping reforms undertaken in the sector, saying the State had made historic progress in strengthening infrastructural development, technology innovation, human capacity advancement and skills development across the value chain.
The State helmsman recalled that, during the year, the State had consolidated its position as it became the first State of the Federation to institutionalise the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework and got licensed by NBTE to operate as a National Skills Qualifications Awarding Body.
The Governor also noted that the State has secured National recognition as a Certiport Accredited Testing Centre and had trained and certified over 500 beneficiaries, assuring that in the coming year, his administration would consolidate these achievements and deepen reforms that expand jobs, productivity, economic opportunities for the people.
He assured that there would be intervention in the tertiary institutions involving renovation of lecture theatres, laboratories, libraries, hostels and other essential facilities as presented through stakeholders’ engagement, affirming that the reformation was to create enabling environments for effective teaching, robust research as well as meaningful learning for both lecturers and learners.
"We have commenced another infrastructure upgrade scheme tagged “Ogun State Rehabilitation of Halls and Academic Buildings (OgunREHAB),” through which we responded rapidly to natural disasters and infrastructure deficits in schools this year. In the coming year, we hope to intervene in about 500 schools through the scheme", the Governor stated
