The Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Arc. Dr. 'Koye Jolaoso has inaugurated ad-hoc for the launching of the Institution’s first-ever Security Trust Fund alongside a Sports Festival Planning Committee, marking a significant shift from internally driven security funding and staff welfare initiatives.
The inauguration, which was held on Monday, December 15, 2025, reflects the Polytechnic's decision to adopt a model traditionally driven by state and federal governments, placing responsibility for campus safety and wellbeing in the hands of the institution and its stakeholders.
The Rector in a statement by Head, Public Relations & Protocol of the institution, Yemi Ajibola, described the initiative as a strategic and timely response to growing security concerns across the country, stressing that the move was not a misplaced priority.
“This is about the safety and security of lives and property. God is first, but we must also take deliberate actions,” the Rector said. “The establishment of a Security Trust Fund is driven by collective responsibility, inclusive participation, transparency and accountability.”
He explained that the committee has been mandated to design and execute a high-profile fundraising framework for the MAPOLY Security Trust Fund, including stakeholder engagement, media and publicity strategies, proper documentation of contributions, and transparent deployment of funds.
According to him, the committee is expected to conclude its assignment within four weeks, with the official launch of the trust fund projected for the first quarter of 2026.
The ad-hoc Security Trust Fund Committee is chaired by Esv. Dr. Samson Agbato, with Mrs. Remi AdeyẹmÃ, a confidential secretary, serving as secretary, an appointment described as a first in the institution’s committee structure.
Other members include Mr. Philip Adebanjo, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso, Dr. Olujide Adeyinka Adenekan, Mr. Felix Friday Fayose (Head of Security Unit), Dr. Bola Olorode, Mr Joseph Adeboye, Mr. Yemi Ajibola. Mr. Kolawole Sopade and the Students' Union President, Comrade Temitope Afolabà serving as the Students representative in the committee.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Agbato described security as a national challenge requiring structured and lawful intervention.
He further emphasized the need for a strong legal framework, integrity-driven leadership, and proper security needs assessment for the Polytechnic.
“Security Trust Funds come with legal and moral responsibilities. We must define a clear vision and mission, engage credible personalities, and ensure transparency,” he said, adding that fundraising would involve partnerships, grants, sponsorships, and contributions from staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders.
He pledged that the committee would prioritise accountability and effective use of resources to support surveillance, equipment acquisition, and broader campus security development.
Also inaugurated was the Sports Festival Planning Committee, conceived as an annual initiative aimed at institutionalising sporting activities to promote unity, physical and mental wellbeing, and productivity among staff.
The committee is chaired by Dr. Aliu Ajani Odumbaku, with Mr. Adebajo Kamarudeen serving as secretary. Members include Leke Adebayo (ASUP Chairman), Olajide Adegbola (Sports Directorate), Banjo Ogunsipe, Engr. Monsur Popoola, Tunde Abiodun (SSANIP Chairman), Comrade Tajudeen Adeleye (NASU Chairman), representatives of Health Centre, Directorate of Works & Maintenance, and the Security Department.
According to the Rector, the committee will serve as the central coordinating body for planning, funding, managing and executing the annual sports festival.
In his words, they are required to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks after each festival, with its tenure spanning one festival cycle.
In his remarks, Dr. Odumbaku assured the Management of the committee’s commitment to excellence and timely delivery.
“We will not disappoint you. We will deliver on time and report consistently,” he said, noting that the initiative would strengthen staff wellness culture and institutional cohesion.
Giving the closing remarks, the Acting Registrar, Mr Funsho Kusimo commended members of both committees, stating that management’s confidence in them was based on trust in their competence and integrity.
“With God’s wisdom and understanding, you will do the needful and deliver at the appropriate time,” the Acting Registrar said.
The Rector formally inaugurated both committees, urging them to remain open to constructive, feasible and practical suggestions, as he reaffirmed Management’s support for initiatives that position MAPOLY as a forward-looking institution, prioritising safety, welfare and collective responsibility.
