Professor Pic Charles Onwochei of the Department of Religion and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts has been confirmed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Jos
The Senate of the university elected the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor during the 4th Special Meeting for the 2024/2025 Academic Session held on Tuesday18th November 2025
The appointment according to a statement by Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, Emmanuel Madugu, is for a renewable term of two years which took effect from the day of election, and is subject to confirmation by the University’s Governing Council.
The meeting, which was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor/Chairman of Senate, in accordance with the Laws governing the University, considered the Vice-Chancellor’s nomination of two candidates - Professor Pic Charles Onwochei and Professor Ishmael Ogboru.
After the presentation of the candidates, Professor Ishmael Ogboru declared that he had decided to step down for Professor Pic, a decision which led to the unanimous adoption of the nomination of Professor Pic Charles Onwochei for the position.
Professor Pic Charles Onwochei, who hails from Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, is a Professor of Religion and Philosophy with specialization and vast experience in Ethics and Philosophy.
He is a distinguished scholar who has held several academic and administrative positions including: HOD Department of Religion and Philosophy, and Director, Directorate of Basic and Advanced Studies (DBAS), a position he maintained until his current appointment.
Professor Onwochei is happily married to Dr. Modupe Onwochei.
