Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has introduced a groundbreaking 'Whistle Blowing Initiative' to foster a culture of accountability and improvement in secondary schools in the state
Chairman, TESCOM, Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu, said the initiative would promote transparency and ensure that teachers and principals adhere to the highest standards of conduct.
He emphasised the importance of establishing a direct line of communication between the Commission and the dedicated teaching staff, an uncommon initiative that would encourage monitoring and accountability.
"This ingenuity aims to document and address negative activities occurring within schools, and we will ensure that all reported information is treated confidentially and with the approach, TESCOM hopes to empower educators and create a more effective teaching environment’’, he assured
The highpoint of the initiative was the unveiling of a dedicated hotline that could be reached at 08147578497.
The Chairman said the number was specifically set up for whistleblowers to report any misconduct or unethical practices within the educational system, noting that the hotline would only accept text messages and WhatsApp messages. Blowers are therefore required to include their full names in the message, which would be kept confidential in order to protect their identities while addressing the issues raised.
“We promise that all reports will be treated with the utmost seriousness and confidentiality. Your safety and anonymity are our highest priorities,"Apostle Sanyaolu reassured
The Chairman, however, made it clear that TESCOM would not tolerate false reporting as it placed high emphasy on integrity which served as a cornerstone for the initiative at ensuring that it remained a tool for constructive change, rather than a weapon for personal grievances.
“We want to remind everyone that any false or unverified information submitted could lead to severe consequences. This initiative is meant to foster improvement, not to foster falsehoods,” he warned.
The TESCOM boss noted that the Commission was not only addressing misconduct but also paving way for a stronger educational framework in Ogun State, revealing that, a lot of initiatives would be introduced by the Board to enhance the secondary school system and improve the teaching workforce in realisation of the State government's policy on education.
Apostle Sanyaolu, appealed to teachers to place emphases on punctuality, proper attire and the teaching of moral values.
"Let us endeavor to teach our students not just academically, but also to be ethical citizens," he urged.
