Both the Ogun State and Local Government Pension Fund Management Committees have praised Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying his administration has demonstrated a firm commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state
The committees made the declaration after their joint meeting on Friday, November 7, where they reviewed progress made in the ongoing implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) reforms.
According to the committees, the government has recorded significant milestones, including the successful enrolment and verification of state and local government employees, consistent remittance of monthly pension deductions, and the approval of palliative support payments to retirees in the state.
They noted that over 24,000 workers have so far received their accrued pension rights, while death benefits have also been paid to 352 families of deceased employees. In addition, existing pension laws were reviewed to strengthen administration, accountability, and sustainability of pension processes.
Reaffirming their commitment to transparency and prompt benefit disbursement, the committees assured stakeholders that they will continue to ensure that CPS obligations are diligently met in line with international best practices.
Representatives from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), who attended the session, provided guidance on aligning implementation steps with national regulatory standards.
The committees said their next phase of work would focus on addressing identified challenges, sustaining reforms, and scaling improvements for long-term pension security.
The progress recorded, according to stakeholders, underscores Governor Abiodun's dedication to prioritizing workers’ welfare and safeguarding the dignity of retirees in the state.
