Former President, Obasanjo Wants Nigeria To Begin To Process Raw Material To Boost Internal Revenue

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has stressed the need for Nigeria to develop the capacity to process its raw materials locally, so as to boost its revenue generation, ensure sustainable growth, create sustainable employment and promote diversification in the economy.

Obasanjo was speaking while receiving participants of the Course 34 of the National Defense College, Abuja, on a study tour of Ogun State, at the Conference Room of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

The former president submitted that by processing of raw materials locally, Nigeria can increase revenue, create sustainable employment and diversify its economy.

Chief Obasanjo noted that for industrialisation to be achieved, value must be added to local contents, both agricultural and mineral resources, before exported.

"I believe the corridor, which you call the Sagamu Interchange is increasingly becoming one of the most industrialised part of Nigeria, with several national and multinational companies springing up in that location," he said.

Earlier in his presentation, Ogun State Surveyor-General, Surv. Oladele Ewulo revealed that the Dapo-Abiodun-led Administration made land administration a priority to encourage investors and industrialisation, which he was evident in the influx of industries into the State, submitting that the Bureau of Lands and Survey followed his footstep to further actualise this dream.

He noted that Ogun tops the list in the ease of doing business rankings, as industrialists are able to perform their functions effectively, maintaining that the digitisation of land processing, dubbed, Ogun State Land Administrational Revenue Management Systems (OLARMS), has made the entire process seamless.

"From the comfort of your home, you have access to internet facilities, you can visit our website, file in your application, and submit your records, which will be harvested by the Bureau of Lands and Survey. You can monitor the processes through OLARMS. This and many more continue to encourage more industrialists and inventors to do business with Ogun State," Surv. Ewulo said.
