Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the Management teams of all the State Government Owned Tertiary Institutions , the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of State Pensions ahead of the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme in the State.
The House Committee on Establishments and Public Service Matters led by Hon. Babatunde Tella issued the invitation shortly after a joint meeting with the Ogun State Pension Fund Management Committee at the State Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
Hon. Tella explained that the engagement became necessary to address gaps in the implementation framework of the scheme, as well as review the progress made on the nine-point agenda agreed in the MOU signed with organised labour and to ensure compliance with statutory pension provisions across public tertiary institutions in the State.
The Chairman in company of his co-lawmakers including Honourables Damilare Bello, Yusuf Amosun, Waliu Owode, Wasiu Ayodele, Olakunle Sobunkola, Kayode Soneye, assured stakeholders that the Assembly would continue to work with the executive arm to resolve pending issues under the scheme
He stressed that the key goal was to strengthen the Contributory Pension Scheme for the benefit of workers in the State.
The Permanent Secretary and Chairman of the Pension Fund Management Committee, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo and a member of the Committee, who is also a retired Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Kunle Adegbite, explained that seven of the agreements in the MOU had already been implemented
The duo noted that once, the other issues surrounding the update of beneficiaries’ PINs were resolved, payments would commence.
They reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to addressing the pension issue in the State, noting that the scheme remained the best option when properly implemented; while commending the government for its resolve to address the welfare of its retiring staff.
Other members of the State Pension Fund Committee, present at the meeting included Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mr. Olufisan Osiyale, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, labour leaders from the Trade Union Congress, led by Comrade Hakeem Lasisi, the Joint Negotiations Council, led by Comrade Isa Olude, the Nigeria Labour Congress, led by Comrade Hammed Benko, officials of the Association of Staff Union of Secondary Schools as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and TESCOM.
