No fewer than one hundred teachers selected from thirty-one Senior Secondary School across Ogun State have been trained on Progressive Science Initiative - Progressive Mathematics Initiative (PSI-PMI) teaching methodology to further enhance the quality of education and make impartation seamless and more effective in classrooms
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, revealed this in Abeokuta, during the opening ceremony of the 2-weeks Step-Down Training for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Teachers organised by the Ministry in collaboration with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP),
He said that the training would empower them to shift from traditional teaching and learning route to more dynamic system that would guide learners through real-world problems thus, foster curiosity and nurture resilience.
Prof. Arigbabu recalled that the government had earlier trained 750 STEM teachers twice and equipped them with computer Laptop each to enhance their service delivery, noting that, the result had been desirable as learners were outstanding in national and international competitions.
He assured that there was also provision of Laptop for each participant of the Step-Down Training, charging them to take advantage of the training and be ready to apply knowledge gained in their various schools.
"I want you to make good use of the opportunity provided to empower yourselves, so that you will become better version of yourselves and teach science in a better way" Arigbabu adviced
On his part, Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Richard Babatunde said the exercise was not only to build capacity but a transformational process to empower teachers to deliver STEM Education more effectively.
Speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko noted that the PSI-PMI programme was a testament to collaborative efforts between the Government and development partners to enhance the quality of education by providing teachers with necessary skills and knowledge.
Earlier in her welcome address, Director of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Edun, said the training was organised to ensure that no teacher was left behind in the quest to transform classroom delivery and improve learners outcome across all levels of education in the State.
In another development, the State Government says its ongoing massive rehabilitation and construction of Schools across the State is aimed at creating a more conducive and desirable teaching and learning environment for learners
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu stated this while commissioning a Block of 6 Toilets with modern facilities at Moslem Primary School, Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government Area
Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on health, an old student of the school ,Dr. Tayo Lawal enjoined other old students and well-to-do in the society to also contribute their quota to development of their schools in order to further take the education sector of the State to an enviable height.
In his welcome address, the Headteacher of the school, Mr. Mukaila Idris appreciated the Government for the facility, saying it was a symbol of progress which would bring healthier learning environment to the students, teachers and other staff of the school.
