MURIC Lauds Gov. Dapo Abiodun On Commencement of Gateway International Airport Operations, Warns Against Mass Political Appointments

Ogun State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun on the successful commencement of operations at the Gateway International Airport, in Iperu-Ilishan Remo axis of the State even as it cautioned the governor
against mass political appointment amidst

MURIC in a joint statement by its State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Jimoh Alao and Secretary,Alhaji Olaleye Rasheed Damilare, also joined millions of patriotic citizens in praying for peace, unity, and sustainable development for beloved Nigeria at 65 years of independence

The right group described the commencement of the commercial flight at the airport, as a landmark achievement that will undoubtedly create massive employment opportunities for the people of Ogun State — a far better alternative to short-term, tokenistic empowerment programmes that often promote dependency rather than productivity.

"This development is the first of its kind in the history of Ogun State. We congratulate our visionary Governor for this outstanding stride in infrastructural and economic advancement", the group lauded

MURIC similarly says Nigeria's 65th Independence is not only about political freedom — it also entails economic prudence, responsible governance, and accountability to the people.

Against this backdrop, the State MURIC expresses deep concern over the recent mass appointment of about 1,200 Special Advisers (SAs) across the 236 wards of the state.

At a time when Ogun State is grappling with poor infrastructure, a rising debt profile, struggling businesses, and weak educational and healthcare systems, this mass appointment appears more politically motivated than people-centred.

According to available reports, each ward now has multiple political advisers, all drawing monthly salaries — a move that will inevitably place a huge financial burden on taxpayers. Such resources could be more effectively channelled into building schools, rehabilitating hospitals, constructing quality roads, and supporting vulnerable families.

While we commend His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, for his inclusive approach to governance, MURIC Ogun State cautions that such massive appointment, if not carefully reviewed, could deepen the state’s debt burden and erode public confidence in government.

We therefore urge that competence, merit, and intellectual capacity — not mere political loyalty or electoral considerations should guide all appointments.

Good governance according to MURIC,
must reflect the urgent needs of the people, which include: Quality Education,
Accessible Healthcare, Modern Infrastructure and Sustainable Job Creation

"MURIC is not opposed to youth and women participation in politics — indeed, we strongly encourage it. However, Ogun State deserves to be led by the most competent minds, not political placeholders"

"As we celebrate Nigeria at 65, we call on the Governor to prioritise impactful projects that will stand the test of time and build a lasting legacy for generations to come." the statement concluded
