CBN Anchor Borrowers Funds: Ogun Assembly Summons Former Agric Commissioner, Others Over Alleged Illegal Deduction

Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the immediate former Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, alongside the Chairman and Secretary of the National Cassava Growers Association, as well as the immediate past executive members of the Association, Mr. Ilori and Mr. Segun Adewunmi, to appear before it by next Tuesday, 28th of October, 2025

The House Committee Chairman on Agriculture, Hon. Waliu Owode who issued the summon , also asked the Project Manager of the Anchor Borrowers Programme to appear before the State lawmakers on the same day 

The invitees are expected to clarify issues surrounding the implementation of the defunct Anchor Borrowers Programme in the State as part of the ongoing investigation by the Assembly arising from the petition received from the victims of the programmes, whose personal fund were illegally deducted by the Wema Bank without benefiting from the programme.

The decision was reached at its sitting held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the Committee directed Wema Bank Plc to provide a detailed report of disbursements made under the programme, including the list of service providers, total funds released and relevant supporting documents.

The Committee at the meeting which had in attendance the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Bolu Owootomo, directed the bank to contact the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and copy its Abeokuta branch to supply a verified list of all beneficiaries of the scheme to the Assembly for further deliberation.

Hon. Owode said that the Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption would collaborate with the Agriculture Committee in course of the investigation, given the fact that it concerned disbursement of public funds.

In another development , the State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution seeking an urgent need for the release of the Ago-Iwoye Community Hospital to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu to for effective management and revitalization in rendering quality health care delivery to the people of Ago-Iwoye and environment.

The passage of the resolution sponsored by Hon. Olusegun Kaka Odunuga, followed the motion for the adoption of debate by lawmakers moved by the sponsor, seconded by the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and supported by the whole House through a unanimous voice vote.

Opening debate on the motion, Hon. Odunuga explained that the hospital, when fully functional, would serve the healthcare needs of Ago-Iwoye residents and adjoining communities; saying that it was the decision of all stakeholders and residents of his constituency to push for the release of the facility to OOUTH for better health care service delivery.

Lending their voice to the debate, the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, as well as Honourables Damilola Soneye and Babatunde Tella, noted that the decision would aid easy referral, render quality health care service to the people, aid access to better health care; while giving opportunity to the residents who required tertiary health care service.

In another development, a bill for a Law to establish the Ogun State Boundary Commission and related matters has scaled first reading on the floor of the House as the Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin read the short title of the bill for the first time before the State lawmakers.
