The West African Examination Council WAEC has been assured of seamless take off of its May-June 2026 Computer Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE in public secondary schools in Ogun State
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the assurance on Friday in Abeokuta while hosting top officials and staff of WAEC led by its Ogun State Branch Controller, Dr. Ayobami Suberu on the ongoing CB-WASSCE sensitization campaign at his office in Oke-mosan
He also unveiled plan by the State Government to commence fully Computer Based Basic Education Certificate Examination, as part of preparation of students in the final class of the junior secondary schools in the state
The highly elated Commissioner expressed the readiness of the state for the smooth take off of the CB-WASSCE, saying the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration had already equipped 238 schools with Smart class facilities while four resource Centres had been established with well equipped robotics and ICT facilities at Abeokuta Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Remo Secondary School, Sagamu and Yewa College, Ilaro to serve as models for schools in the state
The smart classrooms according to him, have smart television, laptops solar power facilities to ensure regular electricity to ensure conducive learning environment for the students
Prof.Arigbabu lauded the initiative of management of WAEC for reaching out to the parents, guardians and other stakeholders during the examination council's sensitization campaign to Abeokuta, Ota and other parts of the state, assuring the examination council of the ministry's readiness to sustain the sensitization through the State Universal Basic Education Board,SUBEB and Teaching Service Commission who are in charge of teachers and learners in public schools
"I want to assure WAEC that the Ogun State Government will give all the necessary support and sensitize the teachers and students ahead of the next year CB-WASSCE for the school candidates", he assured
The Commissioner however urged WAEC to be ready to adapt to situation as it arises and seek for necessary assistance from different quarters to ensure successful take off of the CB-WASSCE
He equally promised that government would ensure regular electricity supply in public schools through alternative sources of energy while calling on other stakeholders including the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy to ensure uninterrupted Internet connectivity during the examination
High point of the visit was the decoration of the Commissioner as Chief Sensitization Officer for CB-WASSCE, performed by the State WAEC Branch Controller who lauded him for the unlimited support given to the examination council in the state
Before the visit, WAEC had embarked on sensitization campaign to major markets and motor parks in Panseke, Kuto,Sapon Itoku and Lafenwa on Wednesday later moved to Sango-Ota axis where most of the prospective candidates and schools are located
Earlier, WAEC Branch Controller in the state, Dr.Ayobami Suberu had allayed fears of school owners whose candidates will be writing the 2026 May-June CB-WASSCE, saying the examination council will be making use of the nearest Computer Based Centres for the conduct of the examination
WAEC according to him, has moved from School Based Model to Centre Based Model for the conduct of examination to ensure that every candidate has access to a computer system when writing the examination
