Ogun APC Wins Councillorship Bye-Election In Yewa-South LGA

 Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanbi, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared as winner of the Councillorship bye-election conducted by the Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), in Ward 1, Yewa South Local Government Area of the State.

Announcing the results, Electoral Officer for the Council area, Mr. Ademola Akinyele, confirmed that Mrs. Adekanbi polled 1,873 votes to defeat her closest rival from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 351 votes, hence, she was returned elected.

The bye-election followed the death of the incumbent Councilor, Hon. Olayinka Adekanbi. 

According to OGSIEC, 10 political parties, including; APC, PDP, Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Alliance (AA), and others, contested the election which took place across 36 polling units.

 

Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier condoled with the family of the late Councilor and commended the election umpire for ensuring a transparent and credible exercise.

Similarly, the State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, who voted at his polling unit in State Hospital, GRA, Ilaro, praised OGSIEC for what he described as a flawless electoral process. 

He noted the impressive turnout of voters and expressed confidence that Mrs. Adekanbi would sustain her late husband’s legacy of service to the community.

In her acceptance speech, the Councilor-elect expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun, people of Yewa South and APC leadership for their support and loyalty, pledging to uphold the good name of her late husband, as well as serve the ward with dedication.

Speaking on behalf of the OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Mrs. Remilekun Olaopa, thanked the electorate for their peaceful conduct and discipline at the polling units, describing the bye-election as a model of transparency and credibility.

The exercise has since been widely commended for its orderly conduct and transparent process, further strengthening confidence in grassroot democracy in Ogun State.
