Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Development) of the university, Prof.Olawale Dairo who was appointment in July, barely two months ago, gave the assurance on Thursday during his maiden familiarization visit to the office of Director of Institute for Human Resources Development (INHURD), FUNAAB, Prof. Sheriff Adewuyi
He said that the challenges would be addressed within the limited resources,in order to enhance service delivery
Responding, Prof.Adewuyi commended the Prof. Babatunde Kehinde -led Management of the University for providing stable power and water supply for the benefit of students, staff and other stakeholders of the Institute.
The institute according to Prof.Adewuyi, is one of the facets of the University that is under the supervision and purview of the Office of the DVCD and it is customary for the Principal Officer to visit formations on the heels of assumption of office.
He then briefed the DVCD on the progress and development of INHURD, saying the institute recorded remarkable achievements in the year under review
The visibly elated Director attributed the achievements to the unflinching support of the University's Management, Governing Council and other well meaning stakeholders at large
Prof Adewuyi who was flanked by his Deputy, Prof. Dare Akerele and Heads of Units in the Institute recalled with nostalgia how the initial challenges confronting the institute were addressed
"Before, power supply used to be a major problem here (INHURD) but immediately our Vice-Chancellor and his Management team equipped us with Solar power, two of our big challenges dissapeared instantly because solution to the problem of water supply came with provision of Solar power".
Prof Adewuyi in a statement by the institute's, Head/Deputy Director of Public Relations, Kola Adepoju, commended the University Management, the Vice-Chancellor, in particular for the remarkable intervention
"Our students on Campus are no longer complaining of erratic power and water supply, this intervention is great and it is a big relief to us. We are glad and therefore thanking Management for this commendable feat", he said
Speaking further, Prof.Adewuyi also lauded the University Governing Council and Management for going as far as approving the Career Structure of INHURD Adhoc Staff, expressing conviction that with the progress made within a short spate of time by the Council's Committee that is shouldering the responsibility, the attendant implementation hopefully will soon see the light of the day.
On the challenges facing the Institute, the Director described the deplorable state of the Iberekodo-Opeji Road which is in Federal Government exclusive list as back-racking and frustratingly suffocating for students and members of Staff of the Institute who are regulars users,hoping that the much needed intervention from the apex tier of Government would prevail soon.
However, Prof.Adewuyi appealed to the DVCD to kindly relay to Management the need for consideration to fix the Inner road of the Institute which is in a bad state.
Speaking on the prevailing effort of the Institute,the Director says it is planning for commencement of a new academic session of 2025/2026 in October
"We have concluded the 2024/2025 Academic Session which is the reason why our students are not on Campus as they are still on holiday"
"Right now we are preparing to commence 2025/2026 Academic Session by October.Our form is already out and we've started sending admission letters to eligible candidates even as we are hoping to resume by first week in October",he added.
The Director later presented the Annual Report of the Institute's Heads of Units which embodied the progress and challenges in the year under review to the DVCD.
Speaking earlier on his mission to the Institute, the DVCD, Prof.Dairo who was accompanied by Mrs.Peggy Onorhmoba, Principal Assistant Registrar, DVCD's Office disclosed that he came on a familiarization visit to the Institute which is under the supervision of his office to identify with the progress, challenges and the way forward for the Institute.
The visit was apparently an infectious home coming for Prof. Dairo who recalled crystal clearly that he served as Tutor at the inception of the Institute which was then a Centre under the pioneer Director,Dr Taofiq Salisu.
He expressed joy that despite challenges INHURD has not only come to stay but better still,it has made remarkable progress.
The DVCD thanked the Founding Fathers of the University, successive Principal Officers, Directors, staff, students and stakeholders, at large for contributing immensely to the progress and development of INHURD from inception till date.
"Though we are not yet there,the onus lies on us to continue to improve",expressing confidence that with the track-record of the leadership and the entire workforce of the Institute,INHURD is set for greater heights"Prof Dairo noted
Prof.Dairo reiterated that Management on it part won't relent in providing the much needed conducive atmosphere to enhance service delivery within limited resources and without compromising standard.
He enjoined the Institute's Heads of Units to feel free to interact with him, assuring that their inputs would be relayed to the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof Dairo thanked the Director of INHURD, his Deputy and the entire Heads of Units for hosting him.
Thereafter, the Director of INHURD,accompanied by his Deputy and Heads of Units led the DVCD on tour of facilities on campus.
