Nigerian Champions, Remo Stars Sports Club, kick-start their campaign in the CAF Champions League on Sunday on a bright note, after US Zilimadjou of Comoros 4-0 in the first leg of the first preliminary round fixture of the African elite clubs competition
Leonard Ngenge, Ebuka Anthony, Adama Goita, and Samson Olasupo were on the score-sheet for the Sky Blue Stars of Ikenne-Remo in the match played at their adopted home at the MKO Sports Arena in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The Daniel Ogunmodede tutored side dominance in the match,saw Joseph Abah blasted an effort over the bar before debutant Leonard Ngenge capitalized on a loose ball in the area to put Remo Stars ahead in the 12th minute.
Ebuka Anthony double the lead for the home side after receiving a cross from Chilekwu Chigozie who had earlier connected a free-kick from Abubakar Ibrahim, within first-hand stoppage time
The visitors struggled through out the opening half and were able to test Remo Stars goalkeeper Adeniyi Obassa, once in a while
Remo Stars sustained their dominance by dictating the proceedings in the encounter.
Coach Ogunmodede later brought in
Haruna Hadi and Adama Goita ten minutes into the second half, withdrawing the duo of Oshidero Sodiq and Joseph Abah in the encounter
Nearly 15 minutes later, a beautiful combination play ended with Goita heading into the back of the net from Abubakar Ibrahim’s teasing cross for Remo Stars’ third goal.
Another substitute, Samson Olasupo, who had earlier replaced Samuel Anakwe, latched onto a beautiful pass from Haruna Hadi to finish for the game’s fourth goal. It was the icing on the cake, as the NPFL champions claimed a commanding lead ahead of the second leg next Friday.
US Zilimadjou and Remo Stars will return to the same venue in Abeokuta for the second leg of the encounter.
The winner on aggregate will face Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the final qualifying round.
