Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, his Environment counterpart, Dr. Ola Oresanya, as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor (State Public Works Agency) to appear before the Assembly on Tuesday 12th of August, 2025 at 2.00pm.
The house issued the summon, following a report of a fatal truck accident at Uren bridge linking Odogbolu Local Government Area to Ikenne Local Government Area caused by a narrow nature of the bridge which was due for repairs; hence the need for an interface with the concerned agencies on the conditions of some roads across the State.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide, issued the invitation at the plenary, after the presentation of the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, who reported the accident that occured on the bridge, saying the bridge is narrow, weak and needed reconstruction.
The Speaker expressed condolences to the families of the victims, and called for urgent interventions to forestall future occurrence.
He acknowledged and commended the State Government's commitment to massive infrastructural projects across the State, pointing out that the high backlogs of infrastructural deficits inherited from the past administrations were responsible for some of the current challenges on road infrastructure in the State.
Earlier, the Minority Leader, who spoke under personal explanation, lauded government's ongoing efforts on road projects and urged it to extend the ongoing construction along Ikenne–Mayflower road to include rehabilitation of the bridge, describing it as a major link for commuters in the axis.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has received in audience, the Students' Representative Council of the National Open University of Nigeria, Abeokuta Chapter, and charged them to leverage on available opportunities in their environment for personal and national development.
He threw the challenge when the student representatives led by the Deputy Speaker of the congress, Paul Victor Effiong, paid the Assembly a courtesy visit to avail the State lawmakers of the group's activities and later presented a certificate of honour to the Speaker.
