Three hundred (300) residents of Ogun state are set to benefit from a training programme aimed at empowering them in Livestock and processing of Shea Butter.
The training programme titled "Managing and Capacity Training for Livestock Domestication/Farming and Capacity Enhancement for Women and Youth Artisans in Shea Butter Oil Processing/Production Enterprise is being facilitated by Senator Olugbenga Obadara who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Monday, Senator Obadara noted that the aim of the program was to ensure food security and empower the people.
Senator Obadara who was represented at the meeting by the Managing Director of Sweet FM, Abeokuta, Mr Eddy Aina said that a team of knowledgeable experts have been put together as instructors during the training program.
Chairman of the Consulting firm for the programme, Jide Ibitoye explained that the knowledge gain would become a source of income generation for the participants.
One of the consultant, farmer Ayopo Somefun bemoaned the numerous opportunities yet to be fully exploited in the agriculture sector in the country.
Somefun stated that 1.2 million hectares (3 million acres) of farmland have not being cultivated in ogun state and urged government to redirect its focus in agriculture policies.
The stakeholders at the meeting commended Senator Obadara for sponsoring such an impactful program.
The two weeks training program which kicks off this Tuesday will hold at the Centenary Hall and Abeokuta Development Union Hall, both in Ake area of the state capital.
