Ogun State Government has come to the rescue of a stranded teenage mother, Temilola Adediran, who recently gave birth to a set of triplets at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro in Abeokuta, the state capital
It was learnt that her partner allegedly fled upon receiving the news of the newly born triplets, to escape the responsibility of setting the medical bills at the hospital
Temilola, it was also learnt was preparing for her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) when she became pregnant and later delivered the triplets naturally, without undergoing a Caesarean Section.
She has been stranded at the hospital after the father of the triplets, identified as Mr. Adeniran, absconded, leaving her unable to settle the medical bills.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye who responded to a public call for assistance on Thursday ,led a government delegation to the hospital to assess the situation and provide immediate support.
"In response to the public appeal, I led our team, including the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Jumoke Adewole, to visit Sacred Heart Hospital to ensure the wellbeing of the young mother and her babies," She revealed to newsmen after the visit.
Governor Dapo Abiodun according to Adeleye, had personally extended a cash gift to the triplets and offset the outstanding hospital bills.
Other mothers in the maternity ward also received financial gifts and welfare support from the ministry, it was further learnt
The Commissioner was full of appreciation for the high level of professionalism displayed by the hospital management and its medical team
“We deeply appreciate the professionalism and care shown by the hospital’s management and medical team, led by Dr. Arifalo Olawole,” Adeleye said.
“To the mother of the triplets, we offer not just congratulations but a promise of long-term support, including sustainable empowerment programmes to help her rebuild her life," she assured
Sources at the hospital confirmed that the triplets are currently being kept in an incubator and may remain under medical care for about a month before they can be discharged from the facility
She pledged government's readiness to continue to do a follow-up through its social welfare structures to ensure the mother and her children receive the necessary care and empowerment.
