Ogun State House of Assembly has stressed the need for the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure stricter monitoring protocols for contractors handling road projects across the State, so as to justify government’s huge investment in infrastructure through value addition as well as quality and durable roads
The House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure led by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju made the call during the ongoing mid-year budget performance appraisal of the ministry, held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
They emphasized the importance of enhancing internal monitoring mechanisms during construction and post-completion stages to ensure that the all road projects awarded meet the approved standards and deliver long-term socio-economic benefits to the people.
The Committee also requested the Ministry to furnish the Assembly with a comprehensive list of completed and ongoing road projects across the State to aid its legislative oversight.
The lawmakers also urged the Ministry to give increased attention to the reconstruction of Abeokuta-Abule Egba Road; while commending the Ministry for its improvement on documentation of road projects in its mid-year budget performance record.
The House Committee members including Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Babatunde Tella, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Dickson Awolaja and Adebisi Oyedele called on the Ministry to speed up works on road projects across their constituencies; while Hon. Wahab Haruna requested an extension of the ongoing road infrastructure to his constituency.
Responding, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Adesanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Yusuf Lateef Oladimeji, explained that the Ministry had completed several road projects across the State, contributing significantly to economic activity.
He listed some of the projects to include the recently commissioned Oke Erinja-Ilobi road in Yewa South; Awokoya Road and Igbeba-Talbort-Yidi Lane in Ijebu Ode.
According to him, roads completed and awaiting commissioning include Toyin-Giwa Hercules Road in Ifo, along with the Alagbole-Ajuwon and Akute-Ajuwon roads amongst others; adding that more ongoing projects would be completed once the rainy season eases.
He assured that palliative works were also carried out on key roads to improve access, reduce vehicle maintenance costs and enhance road safety.
The Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) and the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services (BEES) also had their budget performances appraised by the State lawmakers.
Similarly the State Assembly called on the State Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to strive harder towards achieving efficient, accessible and quality healthcare delivery; while strengthening internal systems to enhance fiscal performance and service impact across the State.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Wahab Haruna, gave the charge during the commencement of the 2025 mid-year budget performance appraisal at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Haruna acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in the delivery of quality health care to the people; urging its leadership to deepen performance efforts by prioritizing service excellence and judicious use of public funds in line with the State developmental goals.
In his remarks, the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye commended the Ministry for taking advantage of the projects under ' Impact Office' to boost health care infrastructure in the State; soliciting more funding for the Ministry to do more in rendering quality healthcare delivery to the people.
Earlier while reeling out the Ministry’s mid year financial performance report, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, stated that the State Government in partnership with the World Bank had upgraded 75 primary health care centres across the State to improve on primary care service delivery.
