LASU Student Union Elections:VC Congratulates President-elect,Ayodele Peter, Speaker-elect Hon.Ogunbiyi Joshua


 



Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has extended heartfelt congratulations to all winners in the recently concluded 36th Student Union elections

The Vice-Chancellor warmly congratulated Comrade Ayodele Korede Peter, popularly known as *APK*, on his emergence as the 36th LASUSU President-Elect, and *Hon. Ogunbiyi Akorede Joshua who was elected as Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council during the election held between between Monday, 28th and Tuesday, 29th July 2025.

She celebrated their success describing it, as a testament to their popularity, commitment, and the confidence placed in them by the student body.

Professor Olatunji-Bello commended the entire electoral process, noting that the exercise was peaceful, transparent, and credible, a model for student democracy in Nigerian higher education. 

She affirms that the outcome reflects the true will of the students and pledges, as earlier stated, to collaborate closely with the new student leadership in advancing the interests and welfare of LASU’s world-class students.

The VC also acknowledges and applauds the courage and sportsmanship of all other aspirants who, though not elected, conducted themselves with maturity and grace throughout the process. She commends them for embracing the outcome in good faith, reminding them that in the spirit of democracy, 'win or lose, you are all winners.'

She further lauds the sterling performance of the Independent Electoral Committee, whose professionalism and diligence ensured the integrity of the elections. 

According to her, posterity will remember them for delivering a process that was both fair and credible, one that has now become a benchmark for student electoral practices.

 The Vice-Chancellor  listed those who contributed greatly to the success of the  elections to include the Director of the Directorate of ICT, Professor Toyin Enikuomehin, and his team for the robust digital infrastructure; the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, and his team for their coordination and support

She equally acknowledged the vigilant officers of the LASU Security Unit; the committed staff of the Centre for Information and Public Relations; and other members of the university community whose efforts helped deliver a seamless election.

She concludes by reaffirming LASU’s position as a trailblazer in student-centred governance. She emphasises that the successful conduct of this election once again showcases LASU as a leading light in demonstrating how electronic voting can enhance transparency, credibility, and trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.
