Abeokuta Allstars Football Club have raised alarm over the activities of members of a group whom the club described as Impostors, referring themselves as its members
Public Relations Officer of the club, Wole Otayemi who raised the alarm in a statement made available to Edu-biznews on Saturday, accused the group of illegally parading themselves as members of Abeokuta Allstars Football Club during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka in his office in Abeokuta on Thursday morning to solicit the support of government towards organizing a football competition, tagged South West Veterans All Stars football tournament.
Allstars football club of Abeokuta according to the statement, is the only recognized and duly registered Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta and the club has been in existence since 1990.
Otayemi in the statement added that the Abeokuta Allstars Football Club was
duly recognized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Nigeria Players Union and the state government who also approved and allocated an office and Secretariat within the premises of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto to run its activities for almost two decades.
He maintained in that Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta is the only All Stars football club from Ogun State to have been duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission -RC 144664 and the 1st in Ogun State under the Nigeria Players Union
The club therefore threatened to institute a legal action, if members of the group continue to use its name to solicit support from government and other members of the public
The statement reads in part:
"It has come to our notice via a widely publicized report on the social media space that a Football Association or Club are referring to themselves as members of the Abeokuta Allstars Football Club"
"The group is not only illegal but a bunch of impostors criminally parading themselves as members of the highly respected and revered Allstars Football Club Abeokuta"
"In the story being peddled on the media space after the said impostors purportedly paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development , Hon Wasiu Isiaka in his office in Abeokuta on Thursday morning, the group, known for masqurading their personality for the public, reportedly decorated the Hon Commissioner, soliciting for support from the State government in organizing a football competition, tagged South West Veterans All Stars football tournament"
"Let me set the record straight here"
"Firstly, Allstars football club of Abeokuta is the only recognized and duly registered Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta and the club has been in existence since 1990"
"Secondly, Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta is the only All Stars football club from Ogun State to have been duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission -RC 144664 and the 1st in Ogun State under the Nigeria Players Union - OG/U001"
"Thirdly, Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta is the only club amongst Allstars nationwide to have won a State federation cup tournament which we won in 2018 and progressed to as far as the second round of the national federation Cup tournament same year."
"Incidentally, we are duly recognized by the NFF, the Nigeria Players Union and the state government which approved and allocated our office and Secretariat within the premises of the MKO Abiola Sports arena, the benefits we have been enjoying for almost two decades. Apart from that, the club has been observing its training activities within the premises and has been organizing the Abeokuta Allstars Veterans Football competitions in the last few years within the MKO Abiola Sports Arena"
"It is not only strange to see a group of impostors using our name for attention but we are worried about the criminal implications of these actions to our image as a responsible club, peopled by professional footballers who have not only played the game to the highest level both at club and national team level but, also managed and administered the game to the pinnacle of it".
"It must be clearly stated that the Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta is not in any way connected with this group of impostors impersonating the Allstars Football Club of Abeokuta and has nothing to do with the organizers or sponsors of the faceless Foundation"
"Finally, we are using this medium to sound a note of warning to anyone or group of people to desist from using our name to defraud members of the public or rally support in any form for their selfish gain. We are a group of responsible people and failure to adhere strictly to this may attract escalation of this persistent nagative act to our lawyer for litigations", the statement concluded
