No fewer than 241 (two hundred and forty-one) have bagged First Class degrees at 23rd Convocation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session of Babcock University Ilishan-Remo in Ogun State
President/Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof.Ademola Tayo who revealed this on Sunday during the 2025 Convocation ceremony, said the institution produced total of 3, 229 graduates including 2, 543 undergraduates , 686 postgraduates consisting of 217 PhD, 30 Mphil, 359 Master and 80 who bagged Post Graduate Diploma while Lawal Fatimah Oyiza from Economics emerged overall best graduating student with CGPA 4.97
The Vice-Chancellor who will be leaving on December 1, 2025 was full of appreciation for the support given by governing council and management to him in past one decade of service to the institution
Babcock University according to him, has continued to ensure 100 percent accreditation of its academic programmes by National Universities Commission (NUC) in addition to approval given to run four new programmes in *Cyber security*, *Information System*, *Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution* and one health related programme
He added that academic programmes at the medical school of the university were accredited by the West African College of Physicians, National Postgraduate College of Nigeria Radiographers Board of Nigeria and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria which also increased the admission to 100 per session for its medical laboratory programme
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that within ten-year tenure in office, the engineering and environmental science courses with well-equipped structural facilities and equipment were accredited, saying buildings of both School of Engineering and that of School of Environmental sciences are nearing completion at Iperu- Remo Campus of the university
He acknowledged the career and academic feats of some of the past products of the university in the law , accounting and entrepreneurship as well as breakthrough research efforts with meaningful impact on the lives of people
"Our faculty and students have produced knowledge that is relevant, impactful and solution-driven . We redefined research as not just academic pursuit, but as a moral obligation to improve the quality of human life, especially within our Nigerian context", he stated
The Vice-Chancellor used the event to announce the university' centre for Open and Distance E-learning to the demands of job market, saying accreditation team of NUC will be visiting the centre this month for accreditation of academic programmes including BSC Mass Communication, BNSc Nursing, Masters In Education Administration and Planning and Masters in Public Health
The university's teaching hospital according to him, emerged as one of best equipped private medical facilities in Nigeria, saying Babcock has continued to raise the bar in terms of health care delivery and medical education
The event which is also 14th Convocation for the Post Graduate Programmes equally witnessed the conferment of 2025 honorary degree on prominent educationist, Elder (Dr.) Enoch Olaleye Dare for his contribution to the education sector and transformation of many marriages as a Missioner
Also Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a career diplomat from Zimbabwe in his convocation lecture, charged the Graduands to begin to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at Babcock University to transform their immediate environment
He maintained that the global society could only be effectively driven by knowledge not by carrying arms which could further worsen the already tensed society
He charged them the Graduands to maintain the tradition of academic excellence and make the desired change in the society
