Newly admitted students of the Ogun State Government owned D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area have been warned to shun cultism, hooliganism, academic dishonesty and all forms of misconducts capable of destroying their academic pursuits at the institution
Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Adegoke Akeem Rauf and Chairman of the institution's Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon read the riot-act on Wednesday in their separate speeches during the 19th Matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session held inside the Mass Communication Department Building on its main campus
The Rector who sounded the note warning, maintained that the institution cherishes its values of discipline, integrity and responsibility, urging them to guard their reputation and focus on academic programmes at the institution
"We have zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism, academic dishonesty and all forms of misconducts. Please do not allow yourself to be misled . Guard your reputation, focus on your goals and make your time here count", he cautioned
Dr. Rauf who congratulated the new intakes on their admission into the institution, however urged them to full advantage of the opportunities abound in the polytechnic by asking relevant questions, building the needed skills and making the necessary connections saying "the future belongs to those who are prepared and the time to prepare is now"
"Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to empower you with the knowledge, skills and values required to thrive in today's complex world. But education here goes beyond the classroom. We encourage you to engage in extracurricular and vocational and ICT (CISCO) based activities that will enrich your experience, broaden your perspective and position you for success in life and career", he stated
The Rector assured the parents and guardians of the safety of their children and academic growth on campus, describing the host community and neighbouring towns as peaceful, accommodating and supportive people
He then commended staff and students for the existing cordial relationship on campus, expressing the readiness of the qualified and passionate staff of the institution to deliver quality instruction and provide the needed mentorship for the students
"Our goal is to ensure that every student is equipped to compete favourably with peers both within and beyond Nigeria", he said
Similarly Chairman of the institution's Governing Council represented by one of the members, Dr. Kayode Olunuga who lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration's commitment to the growth of the polytechnic and the State at large, urged the students to focus on their studies and shun cultism, violence, examination malpractices and other social vices capable of jeopardizing their studentship
Ambassador Okanlawon then enjoined parents and guardians to lay good foundation for their children, by taking keen interest in their studies and closely monitor their other extracurricular activities on campus to justify huge investment in them
"Please cooperate with your lecturers and other administrative staff. Be of the best behaviour both in the school and in the host communities. I wish you the best in your academic sojourn"
High points of the event was administration of Matriculation oath by the Registrar, Mrs .Lateefat Abdul Salam on the fresh students admitted into the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) academic programmes in the School of Engineering and Sciences, School of Management Sciences, School of Communication and Information Technology as well as School of Environmental Studies and Centre for Part-time Programmes (CEEPS)
