The Ogun State Government has asked youths of the State to embrace the Federal Government's Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET 2025) initiative as part of Government effort being taken to reposition the TVET sector in order to tackle youth unemployment and bridge the gap between education and industry demand skills.
The acting Executive Secretary of Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, made the call during an interactive session with Principals of Government Science and Technical Schools across the State in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
Akinleye said the Federal Ministry of Education 2025 (TVET) initiative was designed to equip young Nigerians with practical and industrial relevant skills, and create jobs to make them great entrepreneurs
He added that the programme would offer tuition- free training opportunity through Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
He said certificates would be awarded to participants as well as startup kits and start up support for selected trades in high demand sector, as well as monthly stipends.
He added that only Nigerians were eligible to participate in the programme and Ogun State was one of the beneficiary’s states, noting that Short Term Certificate (STC) programme of 6 months and Vocational Education Innovation (VEI) of 1 year programme would be offered.
The acting ES further said that the requirements for the STC programme were valid National Identification Number (NIN), BVN, adding that no prior education was said to be required for the 6 months programme, while the VEI programme would require a recognition of prior learning (RPL) ,NIN,BVN, First Leaving School Certificate or any form of non-formal education certificate from NGO's , religious institution or community programme.
He therefore enjoined youths of the state to take maximum advantage of the opportunity which would equip them with skills and prepare them for the future.
