Over 51,000 graduands will be awarded National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in various schools and departments at the 15th combined convocation ceremonies of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
Rector of the institution, Dr.(Arc.) Babatunde Jolaoso who made this known on Thursday at a media briefing, said that the combined convocation ceremonies for nine academic sessions 2015/2016 to 2023/2024 would hold on Tuesday 24th June, 2025 on its Ojere, Abeokuta campus
He also revealed that Fellowship Awards of the 46 year -old institution would be conferred on former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former deputy governor of Lagos State and Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goal, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and High Chief Tosin Owolabi Fadare for their various contributions to economic growth of the country
"Similarly, Award of Excellence will be bestowed on two distinguished Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the development of education, industry and society at large; namely, Aare Adetola Olaonipekun Emmanuel -King , Chairman/CEO Adron Homes and Properties Limited and Alhaji (Prince) Shamsudeen Apelogun (All-Rounder ), National President,ACOMORAN and Asiwaju Adeen of Ogun State. These awards are in recognition of excellence and service to humanity", he explained
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NID COM), Hon.(Dr) Abike Dabiri-Erewa according to him, will be delivering the convocation lecture titled:" Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalized World of Today" on the same day at OGD Auditorium of the institution
Dr. Jolaoso, who is first alumnus of MAPOLY to occupy the position of Rectorship, described the event as a new dawn at the institution
"This convocation is not just ceremonial , but symbolic of a new beginning at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. Since assuming office six months ago, this administration has taken bold steps to reposition MAPOLY for greater visibility, academic excellence and structural transformation", he stated
The Rector accompanied by Deputy Rector, Dr(Mrs) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, former Rector , Arc. Tokunbo Fowode and other principal officers of the institution, equally hinted that some of the alumni members would be honoured with awards in recognition of their respective contributions to the growth of MAPOLY
He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu and members of the Governing Council for providing enabling environment for his administration to thrive while acknowledging the support of staff, students, alumni members and other stakeholders for successes recorded
Dr. Jolaoso then assured that holding of convocation ceremony would be part of regular academic calendar of the institution, having cleared the backlog of nine sets of graduands with the 15th Convocation holding on Tuesday next week
