The opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival holding in Ogun State was a beauty to behold on Sunday inside the new look MKO Abiola Sports Arena, as Vice-President, Senator Kashim Shettima officially declared the Ogun-2024 Gateway Games open
The colourful attracted dignitaries from far and near who celebrated the historic moment of uniting Nigerians through sports with host, Governor Dapo Abiodun whose administration is transforming sports sector in the area of sporting infrastructure across the state, particularly at MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto and Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja , both in Abeokuta, the State capital
Vice-President Shettima who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the historic ceremony was accompanied by governor of Osun, Anambra, Imo including three senators from the State, former governor , Sen. Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East), Sen. Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (Ogun Central) and Sen. Solomon Adeola (Ogun West), as well as other members of House of Representatives
The event attracted the likes of former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Onabanjo, former Aremo Segun Osoba, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo
Host State Team-Ogun , defending champions Team Delta and Team Lagos, Team- Bayelsa amongs other participating states and Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja, dazzled spectators Inside the magnificent mainbowl of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto Abeokuta
The event was spiced up with a lot of display and standing performance by notable artists including, ASA who rendered the rendition of National and Ogun State Anthems in a unique style and with theme song of the festival by another group
The event is the second to be hosted by Ogun State in the history of over 52 years National Sports Festival, first hosted at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos in 1973 to unite Nigerians after the Civil War which lasted between 1967 and 1970
The sports festival was first held in Ogun State in 2006 during the Otunba Gbenga Daniel's administration now a senator representing Ogun East at the Senate
