Ogun Govt Distributes Bags Of Sorghum, Millet To Farmers, Vulnerables..Pledges More Support To Boost Food Production




Ogun State Government has commenced free distribution of bags of Sorghum and Millet to farmers and vulnerable persons, under the Federal Government initiative to boost  production, so as to further reduce the rate of poverty and  prices of foods in the markets across the country 

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo who flagged off the distribution exercise on Monday at the Agro-Service Department of the ministry in Asero, Abeokuta, also pledged Government's continuous support for farmers in all the eight farm settlements across the state, to further enhance massive production of food in the state 

The Commissioner accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye and top officials, added that free fertilizers courtesy of the Federal Government would also be distributed to farmers in the state, cautioning them against selling such inputs after receiving it, in order to improve on food production 






Owotomo who later inspected the ongoing repairs of five of the inherited moribund bulldozers, assured farmers that the machines on completion would be made available to them, in addition to the already delivered tractors to assist in clearing and cultivating of the lands for farming to consolidate on the increased level of food production 

He particularly lauded the farmers for justifying the support given to them in ensuring reduction in prices of foods in the state 

Spokesman of the State chapter of All Farmers Association Of Nigeria (AFAN), Rotimi Sogunle who received the bags of Sorghum and Millet on behalf of farmers in the state, was full of appreciation for various support given to them, particularly in various farm settlements across Ogun 


Sogunle who is also Chairman of Ajegunle Farm Settlement, noted that farmers had not enjoyed similar support from previous administrations since the era of the late premier of the then Western Region of Nigeria,  Chief Obafemi Awolowo

" The kind of support given to farmers, particularly in Ajegunle Farm Settlement by the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration was last done during the era of Late Awolowo, we are as farmers in the state are grateful to the present administration for supporting farmers with the needed inputs", he stated 

Sogunle then enjoined farmers to keep themselves abreast of the various interventions by government to support them while stressing the need for farmers to group themselves into clusters to be able to benefit from these numerous support from government 

One of the beneficiaries of the free distribution of bags of Sorghum and Millet, Gbadebo Kehinde appreciated government for the support,while calling for more in the area of access to finance or credit facilities to enable young generation of farmers to grow in agriculture business
