Ogun Assembly's Speaker Calls For Intensified Campaign To Encourage Organic Farming

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide has stressed the need for  Organic Farming Revival Foundation to  engage more governmental agencies and relevant stakeholders in the promotion of organic farming with a view to minimizing exposure to harmful chemicals commonly used in synthetic farming.

Elemide made the call while playing host to the members of the Foundation led by its National President, Stephen Oladipupo, at the State Assembly  Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta

He also noted the need for the foundation to engage more farmers to further orientate and educate them on the health and economic benefits of the organic agricultural practice.

The Speaker in company of his Deputy, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, linked the practice to one of the gains of anciently inherited agricultural practices , expressing the readiness of the Assembly to give all necessary legislative supports to the foundation.

In their submissions, the Team Lead, Oladipupo and Saka Adesoji, noted that the foundation was established to promote organic farming., adding that unlike the other practice that relied heavily on synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and other harmful chemicals which were often dangerous for human health.

They explained that organic farming remained the most hygienic way, as it is safer and cleaner for human consumption, while also protecting farmworkers and nearby communities from the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to toxic agricultural substances.

The foundation sought the support of the Assembly to further promote the new approach to aid personal health of the people, while ensuring a healthier, more resilient ecosystem that would indirectly benefit public health in the long run.
