Ogun 2024 Gateway Games: Team- Ogun Win More Medals As Female Handball Team Zoom Into Next Round

Host Team-Ogun have won forty-one (41) medals including 12 gold , 13 silver and 16 bronze as at 23:09pm on  Wednesday, just as the female Handball side zoomed into the next round of the event after beating their opponents from Plateau State 35-25 

The match played at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, saw the Ogun ladies finishing the first half with 18-12 before their eventual qualification for the next round of female Handball at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in the state 

Team-Oyo Ogun had earlier beaten Kogi in the first match by 32-20 at the same venue on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, Sokoto state delivered one of the surprises of the handball edging out Edo State 22–20 in a tightly contested encounter on Day 3 of the women’s category at the Alake Sports Center.

The Caliphate team took control early, racing to a 12–8 lead by halftime and holding firm against a late surge from Edo to secure their first major win of the competition.

In other matches, Lagos proved far too strong for Bauchi, cruising to a dominant 33–13 victory after a commanding 19–5 first-half performance as they showcased their tactical superiority and fast breaks to maintain their perfect run.

Fans were also treated to a nail-biting thriller between Oyo and Delta, with Oyo narrowly clinching a 35–34 win. The game, which was decided in the final minute, saw Oyo overturn a 13–14 halftime deficit with sheer determination.

Team -Ogun equally put up impressive performance in the female volleyball event on Wednesday at the Alake Sports Complex as they came from behind to win three sets to two against Rivers State 

Rivers ladies won the first two sets 25-20, 25-18 before Ogun came up strongly in the keenly contested game, winning the next three sets ,25-16,25-22 and 15-12

Similarly in the male-basketball event at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta,Team-Ogun defeated their opponents from Adamawa State 62-45 while Team-Ogun lost 0-1 to Kaduna in male hockey event held at Ijebu-Ode 

Team -Ogun female hockey side settled for one-all draw with Lagos State
