MKO Abiola Sports Complex To Host WAFU U-17 Football Tourney In September- Says NFF President

 



The newly upgraded Moshood Kashimawo (MKO) Abiola International Sport Complex in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital will be hosting West Africa Football Union(WAFU) under 17 Championship in September, 2025


President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau made this known when he led other Executive members of the federation  on a courtesy call on   Governor, Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta.


The NFF boss,  listed participating countries in the coming competition to include host Nigeria, Burkina-Faso, Cote d'voire, Niger Republic , Togo, Benin and Ghana 

He also said that Nigeria's Senior Female Football Team, the Super Falcons would on   3rd June play the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon in an International friendly matches at Remo Stars Stadium and MKO Abiola Sports Complex 


"We are organising a friendly match for our senior female national team, the Super Falcons against the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon which will take place by the end of this month.

"We have arranged a two legged match, the first leg will be played on the 31st of May and the second will be played on the 3rd of June.


"So, we plan to play the first match on the 31st of May in Remo Stars stadium and the second match to be played in Abeokuta, so, the match on the 3rd of June will be played in the MKO Abiola International Sport Complex,” Alhaji Gusau said.

 

Governor, Dapo Abiodun in his response , appreciated the management of the Nigeria Football Federation for restructuring and repositioning the Premier League which now occupies its pride of place among premier leagues all over the world.

Governor Dapo Abiodun   added that, his administration would be working towards developing the sports economy in the State, saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the National Sports festival becomes a reference point in the hosting history of the festivals in the nation. 


He praised Remo Stars Football Club for lifting the Nigeria Professional Football League after over 20 years of seeing a football club from the State or the South West achieving such a feat.


Governor Abiodun pledged his support at ensuring that the State owned team,G reclaims its place of pride among comity of football teams in the country.
