Gateway Games 2024:Kwara Sports Commission Commends Governor AbdulRazaq As Over 300 Head To Ogun

The Kwara State Sports Commission has expressed deep appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his moral and financial support to Team Kwara as they prepare for the 22nd National Sports Festival, ahead of the opening ceremony of the biennial sports fiesta holding on Sunday at the new look MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital

Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, in a chat with journalists before the team's departure on Friday, described the governor’s backing as unprecedented, noting that the team will be traveling with over 300 athletes and officials—the largest contingent in recent years.

“We’ve not had it this good,” Mogaji said. “Thanks to the governor’s unwavering support, our athletes are motivated and fully prepared to make Kwara proud.”

While refraining from setting a specific medal target, Mogaji expressed confidence in the team’s ability to outperform their last outing at the festival.

“I don’t want to predict 10 or 20 medals, but I can assure Kwarans that we’ll do better than the last edition,” he stated. “We are focused on our areas of strength, and we won’t disappoint.”

The Gateway Games 2024 will run from May 18 to 29, with Team Kwara competing in numerous events including Football, Swimming, Chess, Dart, Athletics, Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball, Wushu Kungfu, Taekwondo, Squash, Ayo, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Cricket, and more.
