Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), led by the Awujale of Ijebuland,Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona has asked intending pilgrims from the state and others across Nigeria to always uphold discipline, be law-abiding, and avoid any conduct capable of compromising the act of worshiping Allah as well as the success of the 2025 Hajj or tarnishing the Nigeria’s reputation.
The Awujale gave the admonition in a statement by the Secretary-General of the State Muslims Council, Asiwaju Kamaldeen Akintunde Esq at the wake of the farewell ceremony held on Saturday in Abeokuta for the 2025 Hajj pilgrims from Ogun, ahead of their departure on Sunday for the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the holy prigrimage .
The Council reminded the pilgrims that the Hajj is a sacred global gathering, and as such, any form of misconduct or violation of regulations could have international repercussions, encouraging them to be worthy ambassadors of Ogun State and the nation at large
The State Muslim Council in the statement emphasized the importance of compliance with the directives of Hajj officials, saying achieving Hajj Mabrur (a blessed and acceptable Hajj) hinges on cooperation with officials and adherence to established guidelines.
The Council then lauded the appointment of Prince Shamusideen Adebayo Apelogun as the Amirul-Hajj by Governor Dapo Abiodun, describing it as “deserved, meritorious, and a commendable choice.”
"Prince Apelogun is known for his devotion to faith and his philanthropy, which has benefited individuals, communities, and various religious causes—especially his support for Hajj sponsorships", the council stated
The Council however, encouraged Amirul-Hajj to work collaboratively with members of the Hajj Welfare Committee to maintain the “Ogun standard”, calling on the pilgrims to embrace the state’s "Building Our Future Together slogan which literally translated in Yoruba language:“Igbega Ipinle Ogun, A jo se gbogbo wa ni”
The progress of Ogun State according to the council, should be the collective responsibility of every Intending Pilgrim who looks forward to having a successful and fulfilling Hajj experience in Mekkah and Madinah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)on Saturday commenced its 2025 Inaugural airlifting of Nigerian pilgrims from Owerri Airport in Imo State
A total of 254 pilgrims and 55 Officials from Kogi State departed the country on board Air Peace flight from Abuja Airport to Madinah at 12:50 pm in the afternoon while another batch of 411 pilgrims from Nasarawa State departed the same city hours later at 14:07 pm on board Umza flight
