Ogun Assembly Okays Nomination Of Former Speaker, Adekunbi, Others As Board Members Of Statutory Commissions

Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the nominations of the board members of some statutory commissions, including former speaker of the house, Right Honourable Suraj Adekunbi 

The house had earlier last week screened the nominees , saying that it found them eligible and suitable to hold the offices in consonance with the provision of section 198 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as altered.

The confirmation of the nominees followed the presentation of the report of the Committee of the whole House chaired by the Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, presented by his Deputy, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, who thereafter moved for its adoption, seconded by the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and supported by the whole House through a unanimous voice vote.

Consequently, the Assembly Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff moved the motion converting the report into House resolution, seconded by the Minority Leader and supported by all the State lawmakers.

The Speaker directed that the House resolution on the confirmation of the nominees be forwarded to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for necessary action.

It would be recalled that Governor Abiodun had earlier transmitted a correspondence announcing the appointment into the board of commissions including the Local Government Service Commission having Olubukunola Olivia Onabanjo as Chairman, while Hon. Lukman Olufemi Adiro, Martins Adekoyejo Ijaduoye, Olatunde Azeez, Abiodun Osunbiyi and Olatunde Rasaki Rufai would serve as members.

For the State Teaching Service Commission, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu would serve as Chairman, while Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, Deola Akintonde, Hon. Adeleke Salmon ( Sonto), Hon. ( Mrs.) Atinuke Bello and Hon. Kemi Oduwole as members.

The State House of Assembly Service Commission has Right Honourable. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, as Chairman, while Samuel Ibidapo Odukoya, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi and Hon. Folakemi Juliana. Akintayo as members.

Also, the State Judicial Service Commission has Hon. Justice M. A. Dipeolu as Chairman, Hon. Justice Femi-Segun A. Olusola, Mr. Olusina Ogungbade, SAN Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, Dr. Saheed Oyede and Adesola Ayoola- Elegbeji, as members

Meanwhile, the Assembly has observed a minute silence in honour of a former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye and a former State lawmaker, who represented Yewa North 1 State Constituency between 1999, Hon. James Bankole, who died on 26th of March 2025 at age of 84 years.

The Assembly honoured the duo shortly after a member representing Ijebu- East State Constituency, Hon. Waliu Owode and his counterpart in Yewa North 1 State Constituency, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju reported the deaths of the two illustrious sons of the State.
