UI Senate Elevates Four Scholars To Emeritus Professors At College Of Medicine

Senate of the University of Ibadan has approved the appointment of four retired scholars of its College of Medicine who distinguished themselves, as Emeritus Professors. 

They include Professor Ojengbede, Professor Gureje, Professor Omokhodion and Professor Ogunniyi

The decision according to an official journal of the Nigeria's premier university, was taken at its meeting of Monday, 24 February 2025

This is in recognition of their outstanding contributions to academia in their respective fields of expertise. 

A highly regarded expert in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Professor Ojengbede has made significant contributions to maternal health and medical education thus enhancing healthcare practices

A leading psychiatrist, Professor Gureje has been at the forefront of mental health research, particularly in the areas of depression, epidemiology, and health policy. His work has influenced mental health strategies in Nigeria and beyond

Specializing in Paediatric Cardiology, Professor Omokhodion’s career has been marked by outstanding contributions to this field while inspiring generations of students.

Specializing in Occupational and Community Medicine, Professor Ogunniyi has played a crucial role in advancing public health initiatives and occupational health standards, improving healthcare service delivery and safety measures.

The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, congratulated the eminent scholars for their lifetime dedication to research, teaching, and service. 

The college described their elevation to Emeritus Professorship as  a testament to their contributions and impact in their chosen fields of expertise.
