Rivers Crisis:Supreme Court Upholds Martin Amaewhule's Leadership Of Assembly, Dismisses Gov. Fubara's Appeal

A five-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji has upheld the Appeal Court's judgment which recognizes the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, after dismissal of
the appeal filed by  Governor  Siminalayi Fubara, challenging the judgment

Justice Uwani Abba-Aji while dismissing the appeal awarded a cost of two million naira against the governor payable to the Rivers State House of Assembly as the first respondent and Martin Amaewhule as the second respondent.

The dismissal of the appeal by Fubara was hinged on the withdrawal of the suit by his counsel, Yusuf Ali

It will be recalled Governor Fubara before the apex Court's verdict had been running the affairs of the State with the legislative of Uche Jumbo led three-member house of assembly during which two Appropriation Bills for the 2024 and 2025 were passed into law

Fubara who has been having a running battle with his estranged political godfather and predecessor and currently Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, was relying on the ruling of the State High Court which empowers him to recognize only three members of the house who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

According to the lower court's verdict,  the  27 other members lost their membership status , following their defection to the All Progressive Congress at the expense of the party whose tickets they used and elected as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly
