The Polytechnic Ibadan in the Oyo State capital, will be holding its 39th convocation ceremony for the 2023/2024 graduands on February 14, who will also be collecting their already signed certificates on the same day
Acting Rector of Nigeria's foremost polytechnic, Dr.Taiwo Abideen Lasisi who gave the assurance at a press conference on Thursday in Ibadan to kick-start a week long activities of the convocation, also said the management of the institution might be introducing fines for previous graduates who are yet to collect their certificates
He added that the institution would be presenting both Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) certificates to only those found worthy in learning and character, saying some of those admitted with the graduating 2024 set were suspended for either one or two semesters while others were expelled after being found guilty by the Institution's students Disciplinary Committee
Jummah Service will be holding this Friday, February 7 at the polytechnic 's Central Mosque on campus to usher in the convocation ceremony, according to him
"On Sunday, 9th February, there will be a similar prayer at The Lord's Chapel, the Institution's interdenominational official church," he stated
On Wednesday, 12th, February, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof.Oluwatoyin Ogundipe will be delivering the convocation's lecture titled "Emerging Technological Advancement, National Development and Growth in the 21st Century: Repositioning Nigerian Polytechnics"
The Acting Rector stated that the convocation proper would be holding on Friday , 14th of February at the 1,000 seater hall along the North/South road on the campus with Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde who is a visitor to the institution as Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony
"I want to use this opportunity to appreciate our Visitor, Engr.Oluwaseyi Makinde for giving education priority attention in the State. At The Polytechnic Ibadan in particularly, the Governor has always been responding to our requests. He has given adequate support to the institution in the accreditation, re-accreditation and mounting of new programmes", he acknowledged
Dr. Lasisi who pledged the unalloyed support of the institution to current administration in Oyo State, expressed the commitment of the Polytechnic to continue to produce high quality graduates for the nation, noting some of the prominent royal fathers, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Iba of Kisi, Oba Aweda Lawal and brand new Alafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade , former governors and lawmakers amongst other technocrats and captain of industries produced by the institution
He assured guests and other stakeholders gracing the event of adequate security arrangements put in place by the planing committee for the convocation, assuring that security personnel including the Police, DSS and Amotekun would be on ground to ensure orderliness and a peaceful programme
