Ilawo Town Crisis: Chiefs Accuse Olu Of Orile-Ilawo Of Disrupting Traditional Rites With Suspected Thugs

The crisis between Olu of Orile-Ilawo, Oba (Prof.) Alexander MacGregor and high Chiefs in Ilawo community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State deepened on Wednesday, after the monarch along with his wife were  accused of leading some suspected thugs including women to disrupt traditional rites at the Ogboni house

Oba MacGregor had on the 2nd of November, 2024 announced the suspension of the Oluwo Ilawo , Chief Samson Oluwole Dosunmu and nine other high Chiefs whom he alleged sold 1,600 acres of land belonging to the community and subsequently sealed the Ogboni house

But Oluwo Ilawo, Chief Samson Oluwole Dosunmu leading other high Chiefs who had since denied the allegation of land sale, however accused the monarch of storming the Ogboni house with some policemen from Enugada, Adatan and mobile squad from Zone-two in Abeokuta, to cause chaos in the Ogboni house after the high chiefs defied the  closure of the house and forcefully re-opened the place,  acting on the joint directive of both Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and Osile of Oke-Ona Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedapo Tejuoso

Chie Dosunmu speaking with newsmen shortly after the alleged attack on the Ogboni house,  claimed that wife of Oba MacGregor and suspected thugs were harassing the high chiefs, preventing them from performing the necessary sacrifice to appease the gods for those who died in the past one month of closure of the Ogboni house

The Oluwo Ilawo who described such closure by Oba MacGregor as an act of abomination which has never happened  in the history of Ilawo town , also claimed that the suspected thugs carted away foodstuffs and other items brought to perform the ritual and appease the gods , saying that it took an urgent intervention of the Area Commander of Police who ended the alterations between the high chiefs and Olori at the scene and prevented it from further escalation

The High Chief described the closure of Ogboni as strange in almost 50 years of his membership of Ogboni and 13 years as Oluwo Ilawo, stressing the need for the concerned authority including the Ogun State Government as well as paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and Osile of Oke-Ona Egbaland Oba Tejuoso , to call Olu Of Orile-Ilawo to order

The Baala of Oke-Ona Egbaland claimed that some of the items brought for the sacrifice to appease gods are still in custody of the monarch, while the live goat was left at the Ogboni house
