The 40 players selected from Gateway United's preseason trials who are competing for final selection in the team at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, have been given N20,000 each as feeding allowance courtesy of the Ogun State Government to boost their morals in camp
The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka provided ₦20,000 cash to each of them as feeding allowance for the two-day trials, to further encourage and support the players
This gesture according to him, reflects the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots talent and fostering an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.
The 40 players were discovered from the four zones of Ogun State
The players participated in the two sessions held on Wednesday both in the morning and evenin, under the close observation of the 10-member preseason trial committee.
The final selection is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Speaking on the progress, the chairman of the committee, Biodun Odejimi, expressed satisfaction with the players' performance and potential:
"Tomorrow (Thursday )is the final showdown, but we are excited by what we saw today. The players demonstrated hunger and a commendable level of professionalism needed to compete in league football. Once selected and properly trained, they will be battle-ready."
Odejimi also commended the fairness of the selection process:
"The committee is not only proud of this selection but also pleased with the meritocracy applied in choosing these players."
Meanwhile Coach Festus Allen , the immediate former handler of Ijebu United, will be leading the technical crew of the second tier Nigeria National League side in the new season to be assisted by Coach Shakiru Lawal and Coach Bamidele Emmanuel while Michael Soniregun is the Goal keeper trainer
