RE: Viral Video Of Abused Minor: Ogun Govt Adopts Victim ,Calls For Stoppage Of Sharing Of Video On Social Media

Ogun State Government has adopted the female minor who was allegedly badly beaten and bruised by one, 25 year-old Mrs. Adeyanju Temitope now in police custody

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye who made this known in a statement, however called for stoppage of sharing of video on various social media platforms which shows the serious injury inflicted on the minor  by the suspect who inserted firewood into her private part, accusing the victim of stolen biscuits worth of N200 and sachette of Milo worth N150 at Obada area of Abeokuta

Sharing of such video according to her, violates the dignity of the victim as a minor and reintegration in the society

She added that Governor Dapo Abiodun had directed that the victim who is from Ijoun in Yewa North Local Government Area be adopted by government and provision made for her education

The Commissioner appreciated that the viral video by concerned residents assisted in the tracking down the alleged perpetrator of the inhumane act against the minor

Adeleye says  her ministry and that of the health ministry are now providing the needed medical treatment with psychosocial support for the victim while the woman are currently in custody of police for interrogation and later prosecution in court

The statement reads in part: "We are heartened by the coordinated and sincere efforts of concerned residents and stakeholders who have been actively involved since the release of the viral video, which led us to track down the alleged perpetrator involved in the inhumane act against the minor who was badly beaten and bruised"

"Following the update provided earlier regarding the apprehension of the perpetrator, Mrs. Adeyanju Temitope, who is currently in police custody, we would like to inform the public about the ongoing medical treatment being provided to the victim. This treatment will be followed up with psychosocial support, courtesy of the joint efforts of the State Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development as well as Health"

"Additionally, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has graciously directed that the victim be adopted and fully cared for by the State Government, with plans for her education already in place"

"In light of the above, we earnestly plead with our partners and stakeholders in the media industry, especially social media influencers and users, to desist from the continuous sharing of the victim's video. It is important to note that sharing videos involving the abuse of minors violates their dignity and can hinder their reintegration into the society".

"With the concerted efforts of the State Government, we firmly believe in the future of our children. This is a clarion call to always practice discretion when reporting cases involving child abuse and gender-based violence"

"Rest assured, we remain committed to ensuring professionalism and protecting the privacy and dignity of victims",
