Ogun NUT Lauds Gov. Abiodun On Implementation Of Impactful Policies In Education Sector




Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration for implementing what the union described as  teacher-friendly policies, which have impacted positively on lives of teachers during the challenging economic period.

The State Wing Chairman of NUT, Comrade Oladipupo Sewakanu who the gave the commendation in Abeokuta, during the opening ceremony of the Study Circle Leadership Workshop for State Executive Council (SWEC) members, appreciated the government for the distribution of grains to teachers across the state, as well as making learners’ welfare paramount through the unconditional cash transfer initiative 

Sewakanu also acknowledged government’s commitment to timely payment of salary, promotion of teachers and other welfare packages, expressing optimism that the governor would implement new minimum wage when it is signed into law.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who doubled as the Chairman of the occasion, gave kudos to the teachers for their diligence, reminding them of their responsibilities of ensuring seamless impartation of knowledge to learners.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, Arigbabu enjoined teachers to continually put in their best and improve on their capacities, so as to add value to the sector.

 "Let us endeavour to be our best at all times and seek for more knowledge at any given opportunity, so that we can become better educators. It is also essential for NUT to initiate strategies that will ensure further fundamental re-engineering of the education sector in the state", he said.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, underscored the contributions of teachers to the development of the state, urging them to maximise the opportunities of the programme for personal upgrade.

Similarly, the Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, advised teachers to cultivate the habit of reading in preparation for classes, saying NUT should support government to train teachers for efficiency.
