Management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta is concluding arrangements for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding MOU with Chinese -Africa Investment Limited to provide relevant practical and technical training for students, so as to produce the needed man power for the industries in Ogun State, Nigeria's industrial hub
MAPOLY Director of Skills Development Centre , Dr.(Engr.) Olanrewaju Apampa who revealed this to Edu-Biznews in an interview, said the MOU would be formally signed within the first week of July, 2024, under the auspices of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who facilitated the partnership between the institution and the Chinese Government
He explained that the partnership would provide the students of the institution with opportunities of having required training, exposure and employment at industries located within the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone Igbesa in Yewa axis of the State
Apampa added that the arrangement was to further strengthen the quality of the practical training for the students of the institution under the Mandatory Skills Qualification introduced into the curriculum of polytechnic education by the National Board For Technical Education (NBTE)
"Rector of the institution, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji is working assiduously together with his team to ensure signing of MOU with Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone to seal the partnership. We are ready at level of physical infrastructure, we are ready at the level of human resources" he assured
The Director of Skills Development Centre also revealed that MAPOLY was already in partnership with CISCO in terms of curriculum development for training of students in related Information Technology Communication (ICT) academic programmes such as Cyber security, Data Analytics and Network programming, in addition to another partnership arrangement with Huawei, a global ICT firm who trained instructors training the students to ensure that the institution produce high quality graduates that can compete globally in ICT
On the NBTE Mandatory Skills Qualification inclusion for every National Diploma and Higher National Diploma HND programmes and need for National Skills Qualification (NSQ) certification for holders as announced three weeks ago on 10th of June, Apampa said MAPOLY was already ahead of such review of polytechnic education by the regulatory body
MAPOLY according to him, is among one of the few Polytechnics in Nigeria with a building solely dedicated to skills development of the students in various Vocational trades as additional certification to their academic qualifications
"We have skills development building that has small classrooms and workshops suitable for hands-on skills training in Weathering, Plumbering, Electrical installation, fabrication of machines and GSM Repairs. We are about taking delivery of a number of equipments as approved and ordered by TETFUND "..There is also National Occupation Standard in specific skills based competences in the above stated areas of training, using National Skills Qualification framework inline with global benchmark"he stated
He added that the MAPOLY partnership with CISCO, Huawei and Chinese -Africa Investment Limited was to further consolidate on the vision and mission of the institutions to produce middle and high levels man-power for technological development as well as reduce the shortage of artisans and foreign exchange being spent by government to bring in the needed artisans for major road projects and construction in the country
